Classical Music Pages
Abdel Halim Hafez and Om Kalthoum
Egypt has a rich collection of classical singers and composers from the twentieth century whose music is still loved and used in dance shows today. Todays singers often do their versions of classic songs if not actual recordings, certainly live in concert.
As an introduction to this section I am planning on making a timeline of the classical artists mentioned in this section so it can be clearly seen at a glance who was contemporary to whom and when their most famous compositions and songs were recorded. I intend enlarging this section in the future but for now, the artists included are
The Big Four
Mohammed Abdel Waheb 1907 (?)- 1991- The father of Egyptian Modern song composer of Aziza and Enta Omri
Om Kalthoum 1904-1975 The Voice of Egypt. Perhaps the most famous and revered singer ever across the Middle East.
Farid Atrache 1910-1994 King of the Oud
Abdel Halim Hafez 1927-1977 The Dark Nightingale
